Budget 2025 sets out an ambitious vision for a stronger, more productive, and more resilient Canada — one that leads in innovation, manufacturing, and sustainability while strengthening our national and economic security.
At Protein Industries Canada, we believe that food production and value-added agriculture are central to achieving that vision. This sector unites innovation, advanced manufacturing, sustainability, and trade — the same priorities at the heart of this year’s budget.
Over the past several years, we’ve seen what’s possible when government and industry work together:
- $15 billion in projected GDP impact;
- More than 10,000 jobs supported across the country;
- $760 million invested in new R&D and commercialization; and
- Over 500 new IP assets created, strengthening Canada’s innovation capacity.
These results show that Canada’s approach is working — but they also show why now is not the time to ease off the accelerator. The global competition for investment, innovation, and food security leadership is intensifying. If Canada steps back, others will step forward.
Value-added agriculture is one of the clearest pathways to achieving the objectives of Budget 2025. By continuing to invest in ingredient processing and food manufacturing here at home, we not only grow our economy — we build a secure and sustainable food system that supports Canadian sovereignty, creates skilled jobs, and strengthens our economy.
The time to act is now. We have the foundation, the partnerships, and the momentum — but maintaining and expanding this progress will require continued focus and support.
