Who we are and what we do

Driving Canada’s leadership in plant-based innovation

Protein Industries Canada is one of Canada’s five Global Innovation Clusters, with a mission to grow the country’s plant-based food, feed and ingredient sector through innovation and collaboration.

We work with companies, researchers, and organizations from across the value chain to turn Canada’s agricultural strengths into high-value products. From improved crop varieties to new ingredient processing innovations, we help build a more competitive and sustainable agri-food sector for the future.

By co-investing in projects focused on technology, artificial intelligence, and capacity building, we accelerate the commercialization of Canadian innovation. This creates new business opportunities, helps companies scale, and ensures Canadian intellectual property stays in Canada. It also supports our farmers by opening new markets for their crops and strengthening demand for domestically grown ingredients.

We are also focused on strengthening Canada’s position in the global market. Through international partnerships, market development efforts and trade-enabling projects, we are helping Canadian companies expand their reach and meet growing global demand for sustainable plant-based products.

Our efforts are guided by The Road to $25 Billion, a strategic vision to capture $25 billion in added annual economic activity by growing the plant-based food, feed and ingredient sector. This is how we help create a more resilient, inclusive and prosperous economy that benefits all Canadians.
