Protein Industries Canada’s 2025 AGM and Conference offered a view into Canada’s global potential

Protein Industries Canada is dedicated to ensuring its member companies have the support, resources and knowledge they need to succeed—work that extends to its Annual General Meeting and Conference. Each year, the organization’s AGM and Conference brings together a slate of industry experts to discuss the topics most pressing to the sector, with this year’s being no exception.

“This year focused heavily on the international opportunities ahead in the future of food. From AI to expanding into the Asia-Pacific market, we encouraged attendees to explore these areas of the plant-based sector that are growing at a fast pace,” Protein Industries Canada Marketing and Communications Consultant Sarah Ivey said. “Our goal was to spark ideas and inspiration on how Canada can collectively lead toward a healthier, more sustainable and plant-forward global food system.”

The 2025 agenda kicked off the day before the formal AGM with two workshops intended to help increase global market access and address challenges in research partnerships. Hosted by guests ProteinMB, Asia BioBusiness and Nurasa, the workshops were intended to help companies across the ecosystem ensure their market readiness and overall resilience.

The conference agenda the following day featured a lineup of panellists and keynote speakers focused on the idea of Canada leading the global food market by harnessing our protein potential—such as through AI, through our abundant protein crops and by harnessing economic trends. Ivey said this year’s keynote speakers were of particular interest to attendees. This included award-winning journalist Amanda Lang, and Manitoba-businessman Mike Fata.

“[Amanda’s] keynote presentation, Navigating Uncertainty: Economic Trends and Forecasts, provided valuable insights into the current economic landscape and helped attendees plan for long-term success,” Ivey said. “We were also thrilled to have Mike Fata close the event. As the co-founder of Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and an investor in many well-known and successful companies, he brought a local and visionary perspective that inspired.”
