Accelerating Canada’s competitiveness through continued leadership training

Posted:

Becoming a global leader in ingredient manufacturing, food processing and bioproducts requires more than just robust technical knowledge. Abilities related to leadership, communication and business acumen are all required to help Canada’s SMEs become competitive in the global market, enabling the sector to reach its $25 billion potential.

In an effort to help Canada’s SMEs develop these skills, Protein Industries Canada is partnering with Ivey Business School to offer a second phase of the Accelerate Leadership Program. With new modules and a new location for its in-person portion, the program has been improved to better meet the needs of Canada’s ingredient manufacturing, food processing and bioproducts sector.

“The uptake on the first phase of the Accelerate Leadership Program proved there’s a desire among our ingredient manufacturing, food processing and bioproducts companies for targeted leadership and business acumen training, so we want to ensure they have continued access to it,” Protein Industries Canada CFO Kassandra Quayle said. “This second phase of the program takes that a step further, in a way that’s sure to help our companies appeal to investors and scale efficiently.”

With the Accelerate Leadership Program maintaining its core dedication to developing the sector’s leadership, communication and overall management skills, Protein Industries Canada and Ivey have worked together to develop new modules related to topics such as cybersecurity, interpersonal conflict and economic reconciliation. They’ve also found a new location for the program’s in-person modules in Calgary, allowing for easier access for the sector’s largely Western Canadian audience. The majority of the program will still be delivered online, however, allowing attendees to easily fit the program into their schedule. Travel assistance is also available for a limited number of attendees, particularly Indigenous employees, newcomers to Canada and other underrepresented groups, helping make the program more accessible to interested companies.

"The Accelerate Leadership Program has evolved significantly over the past three years, reflecting a shared focus on continuous innovation between Protein Industries Canada and Ivey,” Ivey Business School Executive Director of Executive Education Bryan Benjamin said. “Alumni of the program have driven real-world impact for their companies and communities, and we're proud to see growth in this critical sector. Continuing to fuel that success and equipping leaders to stay ahead of global trends is at the core of our bold ambition for this program."

Each eight-month course is designed for future leaders at innovative companies across Canada, providing the Canadian ingredient manufacturing, food processing and bioproducts sector with the skills it needs to grow and become more competitive quicker and more easily. As these companies become more competitive, they’ll help strengthen Canada’s presence in the global ingredient manufacturing, food processing and bioproducts sector, enabling the country to reach its $25 billion potential by 2035.
